It should play the same for the most part, and due to the lower scope of HS2, it should run better than AIS, though modders have managed to optimize AIS somewhat lately from the looks of things. I do not offer a update path from R5 to DX R1, this is due to the size of the update far outphasing the max stable size for the updater. Do keep a backup tho, new updates always has an inherent risk to that folder )

You can keep your old userdata folder no problem. The translator seems to work just fine, and have not received reports otherwise at this point. Seems you got it sorted, but leaving it here still for anyone else looking for this info. If you're self managing tho, install order is basically HS2 -> VR -> patch 0814_all -> DX -> patch 1030_all (DLC and preorders can be applied at any time) If you're using my pack, this should do the trick without applying any updates. You don't need it at all if you don't use studio.
